Rehabilitation Centre Groot Klimmendaal. Architect Koen van Velsen. Holland.

The Netherlands not only has an amazing health care system, but also fantastic hospitals like the Groot Klimmendaal located in a forested stretch of Arnhem, eastern Holland. Its brownish/gold anodized-aluminium facade riffs, and floor-to-ceiling glass gives the illusion of a seamless divide between the building and its surroundings. There’s actual science behind turning a health-care facility into a little, needle-wielding Walden, as Dr. Esther Sternberg writes in the fascinating book Healing Spaces: The Science of Place and Well-Being. She describes how hospital patients (in general) with a view of trees require fewer pain meds than patients with a view of a brick wall - No doubt!
